Each year Chatham Reads, a program of the Chatham Education Foundation and Chatham County Schools, holds free book fairs called Books on Break. Students choose 4 – 5 books each to keep and read over the summer. In 2026, Books on Break is coming to the following schools:
Pittsboro Elementary: May 12-13, 2026
J.S. Waters School: May 14, 2026
Bonlee School: May 18, 2026
Siler City Elementary: May 18-19, 2026
Bennett School: June 5, 2026
Silk Hope School: June 5, 2026
Virginia Cross Elementary: June 8-9, 2026
Moncure School: June 10, 2026
