Chatham Reads, a partnership of the Chatham Education Foundation and Chatham County Schools, is excited to introduce a new, convenient way for our community to support young readers across Chatham County: Children’s Book Donation Boxes at local businesses and partner locations.
All year long, we accept new and gently used children’s books, and now you can drop them off while you’re already out in the community running errands, grabbing a bite, or visiting a local shop. These new book boxes make it easier than ever to give kids access to the books they need to grow as readers.
Every book donated is carefully sorted and organized by trained volunteers, then thoughtfully redistributed to children across Chatham County through our Chatham Reads partnerships. We work with local organizations—including CORA, the county health department, and numerous community groups—to place free books directly into the hands of young readers who need them most. Chatham Reads also stocks multiple little libraries across the county.*
Research (and experience!) tell us that having a variety of high-interest books at home greatly supports children’s long-term literacy development. With your help, we can continue ensuring that kids from babies through high school have access to stories and information that inspire them to read more, learn more, and dream bigger. (We especially welcome donations for elementary-age readers!)
