What’s Happening – Updates from the Executive Director (February 2015)

What’s Happening

Updates from the Executive Director

This year has been pivotal for the Chatham Education Foundation (CEF).  Thanks to you, CEF was able to provide over $100,000 of support to Chatham County Schools.  Through individual contributions and grants, CEF has supported 12 Creative Teaching Grants in 8 schools, reaching over 1,700 students.  CEF also secured a grant, funded by the Duke Energy Foundation, that provided additional hands-on science kits to K-8 students in our county.  Through another grant, funded by the Oak Foundation, we are providing a year-long professional development opportunity for our 13 reading specialists.  All will become trained by the nationally-recognized Hill Center, located in Durham, NC.

As the year has moved on, and I am meeting more donors, community members, teachers and administrative staff in the county, I am certain of one thing.  Chatham County residents are dedicated to education.  I can hear it when I am listening to you. Many of you have expressed a desire to improve the opportunities for students here in our county.  Together, I know we can make a difference.

Over the next year, I look forward to meeting more of you, and discussing additional ways we can make an impact on enhancing our local schools.  We plan to keep you updated on the impact of your funds through our new newsletter and Impact Stories.

Until next time, I leave you with this.

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”― W.B. Yeats

Respectfully yours,

Jaime Detzi (Executive Director)
